Dell Wyse Cloud Connect cloud in a pocket now available

Dell has just announced the retail availability of its ultra-mobile pocket-sized computer, the Wyse Cloud Connect. Bridging thin clients and mobile devices, this new breed of device delivers a set of virtualization and remote desktop features that makes this small gadget ideal for both enterprise and personal use.

The Wyse Cloud Connect is able to works well with virtualization solutions from VMWare, Microsoft, and Citrix, giving users access to work computers, data, and resources on the go. Simply plug in the USB thumb drive sized device into any HDMI or MHL display, add a keyboard and mouse, and you’ve got a computer when and where you need it. Other Wyse apps and services such as Cloud Client Manager for application management, and PocketCloud for remote file access completes the feature set.

The device is, however, also fit for personal use. The Wyse Cloud Connect runs on an unnamed multi-core Cortex A9 ARM processor with 1 GB of RAM and 8 GB of internal storage. It does run Android 4.1, so users can also get access to familiar apps. The device has a wide range of ports, including HDMI/MHL video output, DisplayPort, a mini USB for connecting peripherals, a micro USB host for external storage, and a microSD slot for extra storage of up to 72 GB. There are also wireless connection options such as WiFi and Bluetooth.

The Dell Wyse Cloud Connect is available from Dell’s online store and can be bought from a good number of countries including the US, the UK, India, China, Japan, Australia, Italy, Sweden, Switzerland, and more. Dell is selling the device for only 9 and is also making a variety of compatible peripherals available for purchase, such as touchscreen monitors, and wireless keyboard and mice.

Android 4.3 rolls out to Dell Venue 7 and Venue 8

dell-venue-8

Owners of the Dell Venue 7 and Dell Venue 8 will be happy to know that Android 4.3 has now started rolling out to most Venue owners!

So what’s new here? Although the update’s primary focus is new Android 4.3 features like restricted profiles, there are a few noticeable Dell specific changes as well. A full change-log has yet to be released, but I’ve personally updated my daughter’s Dell Venue 8 and found that not only has the camera received a few improvements when it comes to focus and picture quality, but the entire OS and even the touchscreen seem to be more responsive.

While the Dell Venue 7 and 8 are extremely close to providing a pure Android experience with very little manufacturer bloat, Dell’s latest tablets have been known to have a few annoying bugs that affect general responsiveness — so it’s good to see that Dell is addressing this. Now all Dell needs to do is hurry up and push out KitKat (one can dream at least)!

You should receive some kind of notification telling you that an upgrade is ready for your Venue tablet, but when in doubt, you can always check manually for the update under settings.

For other Venue owners that have updated to Android 4.3, did you notice any other improvements? Run into any problems with the update, or performance issues after upgrading? Let us know in the comments!
